This Montecito property had a problematic front entry because of the presence of two doors – the main entrance and another door for a rental apartment. Both doors are on the same front stoop, so visitors were confused about which door to approach. This was the design challenge. Because the client wanted an English cottage garden-style design, the clipped Privet was an ideal solution: it fit the small space, complimented the decorative wood main-entry door, and distinguished this door as the main attraction so that visitors knew where to go. A wreath, a vine and a mass planting of long-flowering Mexican Sage completed the look. With just a few small elements, we were able to create a large impact on the overall look and feel of the home.
